For an upstairs apartment, the room count is only part of a carpet-cleaning request. The floor, route from parking to the unit and building access rules can affect whether a proposed setup is practical. Sharing those details early helps the cleaner confirm the work before you reserve an arrival window or plan a move-out handover.

Describe the carpeted areas accurately

List the bedrooms, living areas, hallways, closets and carpeted stairs you want cleaned. Say which rooms have hard flooring so they are not assumed to be part of the carpet scope. Note whether the apartment is furnished, partly empty or vacant, and describe any spots or pet concerns separately. Photos can help explain the areas, but a photo alone does not establish that every stain can be removed.

See R1’s professional wall-to-wall carpet cleaning service for the service overview. A useful quote should identify the actual areas to be cleaned and any limits discussed before work begins.

Explain the route to your apartment

Include the unit floor and whether there is an elevator. Describe where a service vehicle may park and how the technician reaches the unit from there. Mention gates, entry codes, loading rules and any restricted access times when arranging the visit. An elevator does not, by itself, confirm that every cleaning setup can reach an apartment; equipment access still needs to be checked.

If you do not know the building’s rules, ask the property manager before confirming the appointment. Do not assume that a balcony is required or that an upstairs unit cannot be serviced. Give the provider the facts and ask them to confirm feasibility for their equipment.

Separate the arrival window from the handover deadline

If you are moving out, state when keys must be returned and whether another vendor or resident needs access that day. Ask how the cleaning and drying period should fit around that deadline. Avoid treating the end of the cleaning visit as a promise that every area is ready for immediate use. The provider should explain the expected conditions for your carpet and setup.

For an occupied apartment, agree on which furniture or belongings need to be moved and who will handle them. Tell the cleaner about rooms that cannot be made available so the proposed scope is realistic.
